The making of one diaper!

I was talking with my new helper today and she thought it would be fun to have a video of the making of a Cutiepoops. I'm not at all computer savy and couldn't upload a video to save my life, but I can give a list of all the steps involved in making one Cutiepoops diaper.

I'll have another posting about Maureen, my new helper in a few days.

Alot of the steps are done in bulk, so when I need something it's already cut out in a bin. But, the steps still get done for each and every diaper.

1. Cut out suede cloth
2. Cut out PUL
3. Cut out print
4. Cut the scraps of PUL for the front panel of suede cloth and for snap/velcro reinforcement
5. Cut 3 elastic strips
6. Cut flap for pocket opening out of suede cloth scraps
7. Cut velcro strip for front of diaper
8. Cut opening for pocket diaper
9. Sew on the Cutiepoops label and size tag
10. Sew the velcro on front panel with PUL strip reinforcement on back/sew on PUL Strip for snap reinforcement then mark the spots for snaps.
11. Put snaps on the front panel
12. reinforce edges of pocket opening with zig zag stitch
13. Sew on PUL strip on the top of suede cloth
14. For 1/2 print design, serge bottom of 1/2 print
15. Sew 1/2 print across the back of diaper
16. Fold under serged part of 1/2 print and sew it down
17. Lay the 2 or 3 layers of the diaper together depending on style pin them and sew them together, putting a strip of PUL over the seam if it's a 1/2 print.
18. If it's a OS diaper, mark the spots for hip snap for elastic to snap into it.
19. Mark OS elastic for snap placement
20. Snap OS elastic
21. Add hip snap to the inside of the diaper.
22. Sew on elastic
23. Turn diaper right side out
24. Top stitch around diaper
25. Add snaps or velcro to the tabs.. luckily I have pre-cut velcro tabs now, before I had to cut them out by hand too.. NO FUN!
26. Cut out microfiber for insert/doublers
27. Serge insert/doubler
28. Stuff diaper with insert
29. Close diaper.

Voila.. It's all done! Now these steps aren't exactly in the same order that they get done since I do a lot of it ahead of time but each and every one of these steps is taken to make your diapers! I hope that you can see all the care and effort that goes into each diaper to make it a quality product for your little babies!

Meet Windy!

Many of you know I've hired my friend Windy to help me sew diapers. I've blabbed all about my self all over the place but I'd like every to meet Windy. With out her help I'd be even more behind on getting orders out. Windy is an excellent seamstress. She runs her own little shop making custom car seat covers and baby carrier covers called Le Bug Baby. She makes the cutest stuff I've seen. Here's one of her covers that she's made. I borrowed this picture off of her blog.
I need another girl so I can have her make me one of these. She takes orders on a limited basis so she can have time for her family. Windy has 3 kids and she is just now getting into cloth diapers with her youngest who is 2. I gave her one to test out for me with the new PUL I'll be using and she decided to make the switch. I think it's impossible to be around cloth diapers and not fall in love with them. Windy is one of the nicest gals I know. She's a runner and has entered lots of running events. I see her running around the neighborhood. It makes me tired just watching her.. ha ha!

She has no idea I decided to do this post about her, but I wanted everyone to meet Windy. She's doing a great job and I appreciate her very much!

Photo contest

I've decided to hold a photo contest. As my site is down I've decided to revamp the website a bit. I've had people want to see more pictures of babies in my diapers. I want to see pictures of your kids in my diapers. Please try to make them look website ready, so no pictures of your baby standing in the kitchen or anything. Get creative, go outside in a field of flowers or something really cute. I want to use your pictures for my website. If your picture is selected to use you'll get a free diaper. There could be one winner or many winners depending on how many pictures I want to put on the site. So get out your camera's and start taking some pictures. I want to see the itty bitty's and toddlers in my diapers. The contest will run for the next two months while my site is closed to custom orders. I will be adding some in-stock diapers to the site during this time so if you haven't gotten your Cutiepoops yet you can always get one of those to use.

Send all pictures to adrian@cutiepoops.com

You can enter up to 5 pictures each.

Have fun, and I can't wait to see all your pictures.

Cutiepoops Cloth Diapers’ Monthly Giveaway

by Autumn Beck on April 4, 2010

I am honored to be the host of Cutiepoops’ monthly giveaway over the next few months! From now through July, Adrian will close her shop as she catches up on a mountain of orders. Praise the Lord for that burden!

During this time, however, since you can’t buy Cutiepoops in-stock anywhere Adrian will give one away every month until she reopens her store.

Sounds like a good plan to me!

This month up for grabs is the new one-size pocket diaper. This is the new style that will be in-stock when Cutiepoops.com reopens the Summer. Cutiepoops one-size cloth diapers have a suedecloth inner and adjustable snap elastic inside the pocket. Similar (but not copyright infringement similar ;) ) to the Fuzzibunz one-size and Softbums.

The diaper for the giveaway has a tiny spot of glue on the outer tab but is otherwise in perfect new condition.

I have not had a chance to post my personal review of Cutiepoops. As a matter of fact, the day I was going to post it Adrian announced she was temporarily closing the store. Not a good time to do a review! I will post that review in a few months but in the meantime I’ll give you a hint as to whether I like them…

This picture was taken about 2 months ago and entered into a cloth diaper photo contest…he didn’t win it but he sure LOVES his Cutiepoops!

Follow these steps to enter the Cutiepoops Cloth Diaper giveaway! (separate comments for each entry)

  1. Become a fan of Cutiepoops on Facebook
  2. What is your favorite cloth diaper you’ve owned, one that would pain you to part with?
  3. Hop on over to Cutiepoops.blogspot.com and “Follow” her (left hand side of the page)
  4. Tweet, blog or post on a forum about this giveaway. You may tweet 1x per day for entries.
  5. Add All About Cloth Diapers button to your blog (new additions only)

Contest will end Sunday April 11, 2010.

Big changes are coming!

I have been very blessed with overwhelming success with my business in my first year. As you all know my wait time has been getting longer and longer. I've hired help, but I need to get on top of my orders quick. I've decided that as of the end of the month I will stop taking custom diaper orders for a few months. I will still have a few ready made items on the site that will be available when I get time to make them.

During this time I will work very hard to get all my orders out and then stock up on a full selection of ready made diapers. When I open back up for orders in about 3 months, I will then limit the number of orders that can be placed each week so that you don't have to wait as long to get your order. I plan on switching the way I operate when I come back too. I will have more ready made diapers available all the time, so there won't be a wait for orders. I have also decided to scale down a bit and only offer one size fits all diapers. This will simplify the process greatly and reduce the time it takes to make diapers. I will still offer newborn size diapers in the custom section and ready made section since the one size diaper fits 10-40 pounds approximately.

I will still offer custom diapers with cute prints but I will only offer the top 20 boy and girls prints. In the custom section you can still choose your cute outer print along with snaps or velcro for the closure type. For the ready made section I will start a line of solid color PUL diapers and a few cute prints that will only be available in the ready made section.

My goal by doing this is to provide better service while keeping prices down. I will be able to offer my new one size diaper at a lower cost that what it is now.

Orders will still be taken until the end of March, at that point I will stop accepting new orders. I hope that you all understand my decision to do this is to make Cutiepoops the best it can be for you and for my family.

I will still be having the freebie of the month giveaway during this time so check the blog or facebook page to see when those giveaways are going on. I will still be available for questions during this time as well.

Thank you again for all of your support and I'll see you all in July.

What's new at cutiepoops?

Cutiepoops has been growing by leaps and bounds lately. I've had a hard time keeping up with my orders, especially since my entire household came down with a nasty stomach bug that lasted for 5 weeks. In order to help get caught up with the growing demand for Cutiepoops I've hired my first employee this week. A friend of mine in my neighborhood named Windy has stepped up and offered her master sewing skills. She's doing a fantastic job. Windy also runs her own WAHM shop called LeBug Baby. She makes custom car seat covers and baby carrier covers. She's very talented.

In order to cover the cost of an employee I had to adjust my prices a bit. Instead of offering discounts for ordering more diapers I had to settle on one price per diaper regardless of how many are ordered. This way I didn't have to raise my diaper price. It's staying at $11.95 per diaper. I did however need to raise the price of the one size diaper to $16.95, that's a $1 increase. The one size diapers are now being sold per diaper too. The pull-ups, no frills and newborn diapers were also raised by $1 per diaper.

I will always strive to offer my diapers at affordable prices. I know that times are hard and cloth diapers are expensive (at first). I started cloth diapering my babies to save money and I haven't forgotten that is why many of you are cloth diapering as well.

I have appreciated the overwhelming support I have gotten from all you mama's over my first year in business. I feel very fortunate to have found something that I love to do that allows me to be at home with my kids while helping to support my family. Thank you!
